Gold mine opponents fear Siren Gold permit setback won’t halt Sams Creek project

Siren Gold’s application for a mining permit for a gold mine at Sams Creek may have been declined, but opponents say the fight is not over.

“It’s momentary elation, and ‘let’s celebrate the big win’,” said Sams Creek Collective spokesperson Julie Downard. “But I just can’t see them walking away after spending all this money.”

In a statement, Siren Gold chief executive officer Zane Padman said Siren Gold was evaluating what legal or commercial options may be available in response to the decision.

Responding, Sams Creek Collective said with two-thirds of its MRE in the highly speculative “inferred” category, Siren did not have a viable prospect as it could not produce a feasibility study based on such a high proportion of inferred resource.
