‘Not another nightmare proposal’ says former PM Helen Clarke on Siren Gold’s bid to mine Sams Creek

NZ’s former PM Helen Clarke has spoken out on Instagram against Siren Gold’s proposal for a fast-tracked gold mine at Sams Creek. She called it ‘another nightmare proposal’, after reading Newsroom’s Fox Meyers’ article on his November ’25 visit to hike up to the mine’s location with Sams Creek Collective and local walking club members. – https://newsroom.co.nz/2025/11/12/fast-track-fears-coalesce-at-proposed-golden-bay-mine/

Thank you so much ‘Auntie Helen’ for your stance and support! It’s so appreciated as we keep up our opposition to a Sams Creek mine while we anxiously await the government’s decision on Siren’s mining permit application.

Clarke, a keen tramper and advocate for NZ’s national parks and wilderness areas, is also a vocal opponent to Santana Mineral’s push to be approved under the fast-track for its proposed Bendigo-Ophir mine down in Central Otago. She joins acting legend Sam Neill and thousands of NZers in strongly objecting to Santana’s fast-track application now under consideration by NZ Petroleum and Minerals.
