Our friends from Siren Gold are in The Press courtesy of reporting by the Marlborough Express. Not only are they exploring up in Sams Creek, but now it’s Marlborough’s turn to have to fight back against a proposed antimony mine at the historical Endeavour mine site in the remote Marlborough Sounds.
Sams Creek Gold Limited, owned by Siren Gold, sought the five-year permit for an operation named Queen Charlotte, to explore the potential for mining in a rugged and remote area from Endeavour Inlet and Resolution Bay north to Port Gore and Titirangi Farm Park, including a section of the renowned Te Araroa Trail.
The land also includes the historic Endeavour mine which was a major source of antimony, a heavy metal used in alloys and electronics, until it closed down in 1901.

Our comment at the bottom of the article – “On behalf of the Sams Creek Collective, we feel for you in the Sounds. Head to our website to find out what this company is up to at Sams Creek in Golden Bay.”
With regard to the article’s content, Marlborough District won’t be the consenting authority if Siren Gold applies under the Fast Track Legislation. The council will be given 10 days to provide their input. As the average mine requires some 200 consents, that’s of course superficial input.”
